June 2017 Plan With Me (In My Digital Bullet Journal)

OK, after an unexpected hiatus, I'm back!  I got a bad cold...you know those ones where you just feel like death warmed over?  Ugh!  That's how it was for me.  I had no energy to do anything, much less craft.

I'm happy to jump in again and show you what I've done in my bullet journal for this month.  I know some of you who come here looking for scrapbook and card making inspiration might be wondering if I'm still posting about that, and rest assured that I am.  I have a few things down that vein in the works, so stay tuned...:)

Here's my video outlining how I set up my BuJo for the month of June 2017.

Here is short and sweet run down on what's different if you don't have time to read the video:

-In the photo at the top of this post is a mood tracker.  I didn't think I would want to do one of those when I first starting bullet journaling, but I've been wondering how my moods are affecting me these days, especially after the death of my father earlier this year.  I've been looking for an alternative to the mood mandalas that are so popular right now.  While I love looking at them, visually, it's really busy for me personally to get a handle on how my moods will fluctuate throughout the month.  So I'm opting to create a blossom for each day of the month, and fill it in with color based on my mood.  Here is the flower for June 1st that I colored and embellished for how I felt that day:

I'm also changing up my doodling practice gratitude log pages a bit:

I'm modifying my gratitude log just slightly, trying to keep it neater and tidier, with a bit more space for writing.  My doodling page is different this time around because I'm taking the #oodlesofdoodleschallengejune done by Erin, who writes the Petite Planner blog.  If you click on the link with the hashtag,  it will take you right to Erin's suggested list of things to doodle from her Instagram account.  I was getting stumped trying to think of things to doodle on my own, so I'm doing her challenge to keep it easier for myself.

And also, if you have looked over this post and are curious about the some of the lettering styles I've used on the pages I've shown here, you can find them gathered on a Pinterest board I created for them.  These are all the creations of other artists...I'm just trying to learn to letter these styles myself and don't claim these lettering designs as my own:  my hand lettering pinterest board.

Here also is my spread containing my June calendar and the habit tracker I consistently download from Kara at Boho Berry:

I've also planned out my first weekly log...I keep flip flopping back and forth about which format I want to use.  I went back to a format I've already used in the past.  We'll see if I stick with it or decide to go another way.  I messed up the title on the right side of the spread, making the letters for "June 4" too large, but I'm leaving it.  This bullet journalist is striving for progress, not perfection...:).

I hope you guys like my page spreads that I have so far.  If you want to see more of my progress for this month as I go along, please give me a holler.

Otherwise, thanks for visiting and I'll see you around!

April 2017 Bullet Journal Setup/Walkthrough

Hello, everyone!  I set up my bullet journal spreads for this month, so I'm sharing them today.  I'm still not sure if I would prefer to share at the beginning of a new month, or a flip through at the end of the month.  We will see how it goes...:)

If you are interested, the flip through video is below:

If you don't have time to watch, then you can just look at the spreads I've done so far:

In case you didn't see my last video, one of the things I'm doing to improve as a person is to take a weekly inventory of how I'm doing as a person, and my husband and I go over our progress together for the week.  I wanted to show you one that was not filled out so you could see my format.
The lettering style I used on the word "yourself" is one you can find on Pinterest if you want to try it out for yourself:  messy alphabet

Here is one of my weekly spreads...pretty self explanatory, but I wanted to show you the cool lettering I used here...another one I found online (can remember where I found this lettering style, but I will link it if I find out).

Alright guys, that's all for now!  Holler if you have suggestions or requests for bullet journal posts. enjoy your day.

March 2017 Digital Bullet Journal Walk Through

Hey everyone!

Back in February when I posted about starting up a Digital Bullet Journal, I was really surprised by the number of views that video got on my YouTube channel...it's been my most popular video yet!

Since this topic is so well received, I thought I would try making more videos and maybe make it a regular feature here, on the channel, and my social media pages if I think there's enough interest.  I am so loving my digital BuJo and how it's a fun creative outlet and a flexible planning system.

Here is the video:

I included a few of my favorite page spreads, if you wanna get a better look at them.  The pink and green self-assessment spread wasn't included in the video simply to save time, so I thought I would show it here with the other pages I'm sharing here:

This is one of my weekly log spreads.  It's pretty simple...still not sure if I want to change the design of my weekly entries or not...but it works for now.

One of my favorites is this monthy memories spread.  I was really proud of myself for drawing my city's little skyline.

I love how this one turned out!  The gratitude log is so great for helping me to see all the good in my life, and who knew my little doodles would turn out better than I expected?

My self-eval pages are fun for me to design.  This is the one that didn't make it into
the video.  I blurred the words for privacy purposes, but this still lets you see more of the page.  I'm finding that drawing myself some nice straight lines with my Apple Pencil and the ruler tool keeps everything looking so much neater.

Again, if you are interested, I'm using the Morpholio Journal App on my iPad as my digital bullet journal, and use the habit tracker that can be downloaded from the Boho Berry Tribe Page.

Thanks again for visiting!

Create A Cool Title Treatment (Like This One!)

One thing many people overlook in regards to Photoshop Elements is that not every technique is complicated or requires a lot of steps.  The title treatment I used here so simple to create and requires the use of only two tools in Elements.  It looks difficult, but takes only minutes to do.  Watch the video I made and see how you can make a title similar to this one:

The kit I used is so beautiful, and it's called Lavender and Lace by SeaTrout Scraps.  You can purchase the kit bundle here: Lavender and Lace Collection.  You can see the kit contents below:

Font used:
Saloon Regular and Always in My Heart

If you guys like this technique and you try it, leave me a link to the site where you posted it. I'd love to see!

Thanks reading my post and I'll see you guys soon!

How to Make Custom (and unique) Clipping masks

Have you used the shape tool in Photoshop Elements for a clipping mask lately?  And if you have, did you simply use a square or rectangle?  Well, then, try mixing it up a little and using basic shapes to create a composite shape.  You can come up with some fun figures to clip your pictures into.

In the page I posted above about the Oregon Coast Aquarium, the comma or swirly shapes along the right side were created using the custom shape tool, with the half circle shape within in that.  You can watch the video below to see how I did it:

Here's the kit I used to make my page:

Here are the other pages I made that unique clipping masks:

The page below has the half circle shape combined with a vertical rectangle.  Another fun effect for this page is that I used the text tool to create text on a rounded path, snugged it up closely to the photo mask, and merged (or combined it with the custom mask I just created.  So now, not only did I combine the two shapes together, the text adds another fun look to this clipping mask.  For a little more visual interest, I created an outline stroke that I offset from the clipping mask.  I love the way it turned out!  I can't link you to this kit, as it is no longer for sale, but it is the Snap Click Repeat kit by Celeste Knight.

The next page I made used these shapes:

This was the first page I made using composite shape clipping mask.  I was extra proud of it because it made the Two Peas digital newsletter when that site was still up.  You can see from the example above I used a horizontal rectangle this time, then two quarter circle shapes.  I used the skew command (Image > Transform > Skew) to more or less make the rectangle a parallelogram, then skewed the half circles as well.  I rotated the quarter circles in opposite directions, then plopped them on the ends of the parallelogram, then merged the layers.  In the layout below, after I was finished making the shapes and duplicated them to create two other copies of the shape for my photo clipping masks.  I also made the shapes a little taller and not as wide so they'd be a more ideal size for my photos.   I also put an outline stroke around the clipping mask to make the shapes really pop from the page.   This kit I used here is by Jen Martakis.  It's another older one and has been discontinued.

So tell me...have you tried making clipping masks using this technique?  Or is it something you'd like to try?  Let me know if you get the chance.

Thanks again for reading my post and I hope you'll check out the video.  Enjoy your day!
