Plan With Me --- April 2018

Hello everyone, and I hope all of you who celebrate Easter had a blessed and joyous holiday!  I'm back with this month's entries in my digital bullet journal.  If you guys are interested,  here's this month's video:

Also, I like to include a closer look at each page spread here on the blog if you guys wanna see them in more detail than you can see on the video.  As always, click on any picture you want a larger view of.

I'm starting with a packing list layout I made last month before my hubby and I celebrated our anniversary:

Over the last year,  I've found that writing my packing lists in my BuJo works better than other methods I've tried.  I remember more of the things I want to bring, and forget items I want to bring less.  My hubby and I took a few days away without the kids to celebrate this milestone.  I think this one is the best to date because I used a few more categories than I have in the past and it was easier to get things packed as I went.  Plus, I decided to try drawing some make up and skin care doodles, which I was unsure about, but I think they turned out great!

Before I started into April's entries, I documented the craziness of March:

I didn't feel quite satisfied with this one...with one of the kids had surgery twice and between taking care of her, the rest of the kids being out for spring break, and celebrating my anniversary, there wasn't much spare time to work in my BuJo or create drawings.  This page is more word art than anything, but that was my month!  March went quickly and I felt a bit overwhelmed, so I guess you can see how real life creeps into a bullet journal.

I tried a new design for this month's calendar:

Even though it takes a bit longer, I enjoy creating a calendar that spreads across two pages.   I like the restfulness of the negative space between the boxes and how easily the eye goes across the page.  The wavy lines are awesome, and I also love the look of the dashed outlines (the second picture is zoomed in so you can see how fun the detail is).

Because so much was going on, I didn't get a page spread for the first week of April, so I decided to just skip to the following week and get that one done.  I opted to keep it simple...it was important to get the spread done and ready to use rather than trying to come up with a fancy layout.

One thing I did do that was fun was to add my Bitmoji avatar to the notes section of this spread.
This is not my original idea --- I watched a video by Kara, from Boho Berry about creating and using digital stickers in your digital BuJo.  You can watch her video to learn how to do this.

Since I'm not using the same app as her, I simply chose to to into the Bitmoji app, copy some of my Bitmojis into a folder in my camera roll,  then bring them into Morpholio Journal as I do other types of photos.  Resizing and placing them into my digital BuJo is tricky sometimes, but I still thought it was super fun!  Now that I have some of them saved as stickers, I'm going to build a few spreads around them in the next few weeks!

If you are unfamiliar with Bitmoji, I suggest you download the app on a mobile device, create your Bitmoji avatar, and then have fun using them in your journal.  It feels like an awesome personal touch!

Well, folks, that's it for this time!  I hope you enjoyed seeing what I've journaled so far this month, and if you feel so inclined, leave me a comment letting me know what you are excited about recording in your BuJo.

March 2018 - Plan With Me

Happy March, everyone!  I hope you enjoying the fresh start that comes with the beginning of a new month.  I feel like I'm on a roll, staying consistent with blog and YouTube posts.  I feel like I'm starting to find my rhythm for planning and following through, and I hope you've noticed!

Here's this month's planning video, if you'd like to watch:

If you'd rather read about this month's spreads,  you can see them below.  Before I get started on the new month, I usually find myself going back to finish the previous month's memories.  This spread was greatly influenced by the Rock Your Journal Mastermind Class  I took from Erin Nichols, who blogs over at The Petite Planner.  I took it during the last part of January and pretty much all of February and learned so much.  On this spread, the title treatment and the pink banner are two elements are I learned how to do during the class.   I've struggled a bit with banners --- curled banners especially.   It's so nice now to be able do one up myself without having to use a premade one!

Another one of my class assignments that I completed last month was this page.  We were asked to do a special collection page, or in other words, a spread created for a distinct purpose other than the normal pages that are created each month.  I wanted to make sure it was a set of pages that would be useful to me, as I'm not needing tracker pages, etc.  I decided to make pages for date night ideas, since my husband and I are often struggling to find something to do besides dinner and a movie.   I was happy after this list was done and look forward to trying out some of these with my hubby.

Instead of using the premade calendar I created, I decided to draw out this month's spreads, using a format suggested in Erin's class.  I didn't think I would like it, but plunged ahead anyway because it looked so cool in the class samples.  The flower doodles are things I also learned in the class as well.  I love how it turned out.  If I find this format works, I may just make up a premade sheet for this, too!
I really wanted some soft, spring colors for this month, and love how it looks.  I'm so ready for warmer weather and pretty blooms, and this spread reflects that.

Here is the first weekly spread of the month, which I topped with folded banners.  I need to work on keeping both page banners similar in proportion, but I love that I drew them!  I'm proof that a person can better at something with continued effort at learning new skills and practicing them.  If you learn nothing else from reading my blog, I hope it's that you don't have be perfect to learn something artistic and enjoy it.

This last spread is the weekly that I'm currently working in.  I've been in the mood for some curvy, swirly-ness to my standard spread design, so I added some to these pages.  I'm also looking forward to tulips blooming, so I added a few small tulip embellishments as well.

Let me know how your bullet journal is coming along so far, and if there are any new techniques or skills you are trying out.  I hope this is an awesome month for all of you!

February 2018 - Plan With Me

Well, hello everyone!  How is your February going? Mine is getting a little less hectic, since we finished off a marathon of four birthdays in my family, all of which were with a few days or weeks of each other.  There's hardly been a moment to stop and take a breath, but I'm happy now that I can get back to a somewhat normal routine.

This means I have a new video and blog post for you:

Here's a better look at each of the spreads for those of you who want to see them in more detail.

First up is the previous month's memory page.  These types of spreads are my favorite right now.  It feels so good to sit down and document what's been going on with me and my family over the past few weeks.  Creating the drawings is super theraputic for me, since it involves coloring, which I've loved way before the adult coloring trend was even a thing!

This spread may not vary too much each month...we'll just have to see how it goes.  For right now, I love having a monthly calendar and my video/planning sheet plopped in there.  While I've only been using the planning sheet for a week or two, it is really helping me to have that visual reminder and a way to write down what I want to to do.  If I write it down, I'm much more likely to follow through with my plan.   I love the colors here...so many pinks and purples!

Since the last part of January and the first partial week of February were during the same week, you can find that weekly spread right here.  My first entire week of this month is what you see below.
I made the pages look torn, which is quickly becoming a go to for weeklies, and did up this lettering myself.

On the first of the month, I started taking Erin Nichol's (of The Petite Planner Blog) Rock Your Journal Class.
It's an entire course for anyone who wants to start bullet journaling, and those of us who've been doing it for awhile but still want to improve.  Erin has done an amazing job keeping the lessons doable, but still fun and interesting.  Out of the gate, I found myself learning something I didn't know, but not feeling like I had to practice for hours to actually get the gist of what was being taught.  I was able to practice and then have my first assignment posted in the private class Facebook group for class members.   I'm doing all of my practice in my BuJo, and here is the spread I did on my first practice session/assignment.

Rock Your Journal Spread - Lettering

OK, and for those of you who took time to visit my blog, I'm posting some bonus page spreads I didn't show on my my YouTube video for this month.  You will only see them here!  These are spreads I did for the class that I finished after the video was up.

For this assignment, I was supposed to write my name using different lettering styles:

(a couple more pages coming soon)

What does your bullet journal looking like for February? Shoot me a reply or send me a picture or two...I'd love to see your pages.  I hope your day is fabulous!

November 2017 Bullet Journal Flip Through

Hey guys!  Do you ever get the itch to just tackle a project that has been bugging you?  It doesn't happen everyday for me, but when that urge hits, I know it's time to follow to go with it!  In late October and most of November, I was on a mission to edit my closet...or purge it of stuff I wasn't wearing or didn't need...or dejunk it.  However you want to put it, I knew it was time to give it a good cleaning.

I spent time deciding if I wanted to do a capsule wardrobe (see my wardrobe Pinterest Board Here), or if I wanted to make it a little smarter and easier to work with.  In the end, I just couldn't bring myself to do a capsule wardrobe.  I felt like I would get super bored with such a small collection of clothes.

I didn't know exactly where to start, but I was lucky enough to find two great bloggers who gave me some direction.

You can watch my video or get more info from what I've shared below the video window:

The first blogger I found is Rebecca Jacobs.
If you sign up to receive her emails, you can get a free style worksheet.  It takes you through some exercizes to figure out what your personal style is, and I found it to be so helpful.  Although her intention is for you to print the worksheet and write on it, I simply took her questions and ideas and used them on pages I created in my bullet journal.  While my pages don't look like hers, the content is the same.  I enjoyed having them in my journal rather than having to go to a separate document in another app.   I like going back and looking at these spreads when I'm out shopping and can't remember what items I still need to buy.  Here's what I came up with for these pages:

This spread was all about brainstorming things I liked, including colors, fabrics, looks, etc.  Based on the word cloud, I wrote down what is at the core of my own style, and what clothes I feel confident in, and so on.  I highly recommend you get the workbook if you'd like to revamp your closet.

This spread with the pie chart helps me identify the activities in my life and the clothes that go along with it.  I'm a stay at home mom, so obviously, business suits and work wear won't fit my lifestyle, at least not at this point in my journey.  The green section of the pie chart is dedicated to being a mom, and then the other smaller areas of my life are the other pieces of the pie.  I wrote down a list of what clothes are and are not comfy for me and my where I am right now.

For this next set of pages, I used a wardrobe guide that you can find on Corinna's blog, Now That I Can Do, Mama!  I was so thrilled to find this blog, because it is for moms who want to look, feel and dress nice.   I love Corinna's approach because she isn't telling busy women to take hours to get ready, to deal with a fussy system, or spend crazy amounts of money on a wardrobe.  She encourages moderation, thrift, and keeping things doable.

One of the first things you'll see when you visit her blog is a free year round wardrobe guide that you can download for free.  This PDF file will guide you through finding pieces to make a cute, stylish wardrobe that is also comfortable and practical for the everyday life of a mom.  This guide is only a preview, but you can purchase the full guide from Corinna.  I opted to buy the guide and I really enjoy it.  I used the shopping guide and the wardrobe plane to make the spread above.  I chose a main color scheme along with neutral and accent color groupings to help me create a cohesive wardrobe.

I could have done this all on a paper print out of her plan, but I used the print out to brainstorm and get my ideas down, then I transferred my final shopping list, color schemes, and other notes here in my journal.  I don't want to have to worry about losing papers or having to store them somewhere.

This was the sole weekly spread I made for November.  I am really proud of this one and love the color combo especially.   I didn't make other weekly spreads simply because I was so immersed in going through my closet.  I decided to let my bullet journal reflect what I was most interested at the time.

Here's my calendar/What I got done page.  I'm still really liking this format so far!

And last but not least, I also kept my monthly memories page.  November didn't seem like a busy month at first, but when I look back on this spread, I can see I was on the go a lot!  Maybe that's why it seemed to go by really quickly!

That should do it for this post.  Let me know what you guys think of these pages.  Did you like it?  Was it too weird for you?   Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

I always appreciate you taking time to read my content.  Have a wonderful day!

Plan With Me --- October 2017

Here I am, showing you my BuJo spreads for another month!  And don't fret if you are wanting digital layouts or hybrid cards...I promise those are coming as well!  But for now, here's my latest video:

Now, if you want a better look at each of my spreads, just keep reading.

Here are my first two weekly spreads for the month of October.  I've followed similar formats before, but remixed them with little ideas I had along the way, like the swirly box headings I added to the lower layout.  Lettering styles I used from my Pinterest board include Coeur (top spread) and Skinny Letters (lower layout).

As usual, I'm showing you this month's gratitude log and doodles.  Just to let you know, I created a printable that I used for this month's gratitude log...stay tuned for details on how to get that printable goody in an upcoming video and blog post.  I'm excited to share more about that!

My doodles for this month are still based on Erin's prompts from her blog, The Petite Planner.  Instead of drawing out my grid, I downloaded one from her resource library.  You need to sign up for her email list, which you can do here.
This doodle sheet had a title, but I cropped it out in Morpholio and made my own heading, because I wanted to include my own hand lettering.  If the thought of hand lettering makes you queasy, you will probably prefer to keep the lovely lettered title that's already on the sheet.

And finally, here is my spread for my October Memories.

I just kind of quickly lettered the title --- it's not based off any lettering style I found online.  The monthly memories spreads are my favorite.  I love being able to look back and see what things made the month special.

Thanks a ton for stopping by to read my post and enjoy your day!

Plan With Me --- September 2017

Hey everyone, I hope you are all doing well and enjoying the change of seasons.  Here in Idaho, there's lots of beautiful Fall color going on:

Here are my page spreads for September.  I hope you enjoy them.  I will include appropriate links for any items and/or products I used on my spreads (or any borrowed ideas I incorporated).  I always try to give credit to others who have inspired me.

First up is my September calendar, and in place of a habit tracker, I decided just to leave a space to write some things I accomplished this month.  I thought it might be more encouraging to actually record my successes instead of trying to keep up with a habit tracker.  I often forgot to fill in the tracker or got frustrated because I didn't get as much done as I hoped, so I decided to give it a rest for now.  I felt a lot more productive and positive seeing what I got done, rather than what I didn't.

Where to find the September 17th Oodles of Doodles: Sept. 2017 Oodles of Doodles

Here is what I did for my gratitude log, Oodles of Doodles challenge, and my August memories.  It was especially fun to document the eclipse!  I wasn't sure if I'd be able to draw the sun with the corona, but I think it turned out pretty good!

Here is a link to my pinterest board that shows the lettering style I used for my title on this page: title lettering style

And, for my mood tracker, I decided to change it up again, so I went with another linear format.  I had a light bulb moment where I remembered that abacuses (or abaci?)  are a great way to show a linear record of something, so I came up with my own abacus after looking at google images and deciding what type I wanted to draw.  It's fun, but it's also super easy to see which of my moods are predominating.

Lettering style used on my September Memories Page: Nova Lettering Style

The last spread I wanted to share with you guys is the one I'm the most proud of.  I came up with the idea on my own.    I decided to make one of my weekly Spreads with a school theme, and for each of the blocks I created for a day of the week, I made it look like a torn piece of spiral notebook paper:

Check out the video I posted to get a better idea of how I created the torn edges:

Also, I said that I would write down the colors I used from each palette in the Morpholio App in case you wanted to recreate this yourself:

Purple: from the Engineering color scheme (it's the only purple in that grouping).
Orange: from the Automotive color scheme (in the second row, the second color from the right edge).
Red: find it in the Automotive scheme (in the the first row, just after the darkest black).
Yellow: from the Diagrams scheme (first row, third color from the left).
Blue:  find it in the Comic Art scheme(second row, the only blue in that grouping)
White: You'll see it in the first color scheme at the top of the Palettes tool, in the grouping called "Trace."  It's the only white there.
Light Blue lines on Notebook paper: this color's in the Engineering scheme.  You'll see it on the second row of hues, right after the lime green color.
Black:  also from the Trace color scheme.
Faint gray used to create paper tears: The very first color in the Automotive palette.

Alright then, guys!  I hope you are enjoying bullet journaling this month, and feel free to contact me with any questions.  Let me know what has been working well in your bullet journal this month.

Thanks again for being here!

August 2017 - Plan With Me

It's making my head spin to think that August is here already...and while we're on that subject,  where did the summer go?  It seems like it's shorter and shorter each year and we stay so busy.  With my kids getting older and going more places nowadays,  there's never a dull moment.   I need my digital BuJo more than ever right now, especially since the kids will be in school before I know it.

My latest planning video is here for you:

Here are links to some of my Pinterest boards and pins that were mentioned in the video:

I'm posting photos of the journal spreads I included in the video, in case you wanted to get a better look at them.  I hope you enjoy seeing what I did, and since I didn't include a habit tracker on the page opposite the month of August, feel free to leave a suggestion on what you think would make a good replacement.

Let me know how you like these pages, and I'd be curious to see what you are doing in your bullet journal this month.  Have a great day and happy Planning!

Digi Paper Trend - Tropical

Do you ever miss the many different scrapbooking magazines that used to be available?  I used to see them so frequently, not only in the local scrapbooking store (aka LSS), but in pretty much every grocery store I frequented, bookstores, gas stations, and more.  Nowadays, it's harder to find them...thankfully, there's still Scrapbook & Cards Today.  I'm grateful for it, and love to read it, but I still get sad that there's only scrapbooking publication left.   Back in the day, when there were plenty to choose from,  I felt like the magazines were the best source for spotting papercrafting trends.

I know there's a ton of inspiration online, but just trying to find info on the current year's trends is a bit hard.  It feels like most posts or online articles about what's trending are focused on one brand, and I think that it's nice to be able to look across all the offerings available.  There was one blog I used to visit that had a series on trends, but they stopped posting about that about 2 years ago.

So, after doing my own research on this year's trends both in print and online,  I decided to do videos and blog featuring a current trend.   Here is my first video in this series, which showcases the "tropical" trend:

I created a Pinterest board for things I found that show the popularity of Tropical Chic, which does have scrapbooking layouts and cards, but also food ideas, home decor, jewelry, party favors, and more.  If you have any doubts as to how well-liked this trend is, the objects I've gathered here should put them to rest:

Pinterest board - Tropical

Since trends are seen across multiple areas, it's no surprise that it's also popped up into paper crafting.  I was easily able to find tropical- themed digital scrapbooking kits.  The one I chose to use for the projects I'm showing you today were made with the "Pineapple of My Eye" digital kit by Traci Reed and Jady Day Studio at Sweet Shoppe Designs:

Get The Pineapple of My Eye Kit Here

The first project I'm sharing here is my digital bullet journaling spread.  I imported a jpeg image of a single pineapple as well as a white ribbon with little pineapples on it.  I used the ribbon as a border and placed a little pineapple next to each day of the week.  From there, I just used my Apple pencil to doodle in the Morpholio Journal App and added the writing for each section of the spread.

,

Up next is this scrapbook page I made about a pool day we had during our DisneyWorld vacation.   The pool was at the Music Resort, and while it did have pools shaped like musical instruments,  the main feel was more tropical, so this kit was perfect.

I couldn't resist using the kit to make a card...this pineapple element was calling to me, so here you go:

Here's the list of traditional supplies I used for this card.  If I couldn't find a link to a particular product, then I provided a link to one that's similar:

Pink Bazzill Cardstock
Recollections colored rhinestones
silk flower embellishments
raffia
a button from my stash.  You can use anything you have on hand...I fully encourage using your stash whenever you can.

I hope you guys enjoyed my take on the tropical trend...if you feel so inclined, go and try it out for yourself!

See you all later,
