May 2018 Plan With Me

Hey guys!  How is your month going so far?  I'm glad May is here, and I can see some fun things coming my way, as well as some difficult things I will have to work my way through this month.

As Mother's Day approaches, I find myself both thankful for the blessing it is to raise my children, and the sadness for the things that are testing my mettle as a mom and a person.  I remind myself that the bad things will pass, hopefully there are enough good things that are going on with my family, and that we will end up better people in the end.  If you have a mom in your life, please celebrate and honor her, whether you celebrate Mother's Day or not.  She will love you for it.

In the midst of everything I have going on, having a bullet journal to plan things out will help me have the most positive and productive month I can.

If this is your first visit to my blog, welcome!  Just an FYI, I use the following for digital bullet journaling:
iPad Pro & Apple Pencil

If you'd like to watch my video on this month's planning, here's the video:

Here are my page spreads for this month.  At this point, I have only a few to share.  There will be more later on, as I'm taking another BuJo doodling class.  I hope you'll check back for more pages as the month goes on.

Weekly page spreads:

I wanted to throw this one in here, showing a better way to use my Bitmoji avatar, since the last one was a bit smaller than I intended.  I made the Bitmoji a larger and more prominent in the page design here and like this a lot better.   If you wanna see how I created stickers with my Bitmoji, check out last month's post.

On the spread I made for last week,  I really wanted to add in a circular shape of some sort, so this is what I tried out.  It was a bit of struggle, since I've not figured out a great way to use a standard template that one might use on paper, and Morpholio doesn't have any circle shapes available to use in the app.  In any event, I still had fun with it.  The flower shapes are from the Boho Berry Tribe Resource Library.  Kara, the blogger who offers those resources, has some great stuff that you can use in your digital journals.  I highly recommend you check her out.

Here is this week's spread...which I tried a little experiment with.  Part of it I really like, and part of it I feel like could be better.  However, I also realize that not every spread needs to be an award winner, and that my BuJo is a perfect place to try things out and it's not a big deal if things don't work out the way I expected.  It was a fun thing for me to use hexagons, and in the future I'll try again and improve on this.  The colors are awesome and it was fun trying it out.

For my memories and calendar pages, I decided to limit each of them to one page.  April was super busy and I spent time doing a lot of basic things to keep my household running, and had some deadlines to meet.  It was much easier to just use one page each for these two items.   The memories page is all my work, and I hand drew the calendar grid, lettering and numbers myself.  The "May" word art and the two washi tape strips are also from the Boho Berry Resource library.  It was so cool working those into my calendar page.

I'm including another packing list, since I'm heading to an art journaling retreat near the end of the month.  Can you tell I'm loving my Bitmojis?  There isn't a ton on this page right now, but I don't want to fill too much in until I get my list items written down.  I'll give you another peek next month when the page is finished.

Ok, guys...that will do it for now.  I hope to be back soon with another post.  Thanks for being here and letting me share my words and creations with you.  Have a nice day!

Plan With Me --- April 2018

Hello everyone, and I hope all of you who celebrate Easter had a blessed and joyous holiday!  I'm back with this month's entries in my digital bullet journal.  If you guys are interested,  here's this month's video:

Also, I like to include a closer look at each page spread here on the blog if you guys wanna see them in more detail than you can see on the video.  As always, click on any picture you want a larger view of.

I'm starting with a packing list layout I made last month before my hubby and I celebrated our anniversary:

Over the last year,  I've found that writing my packing lists in my BuJo works better than other methods I've tried.  I remember more of the things I want to bring, and forget items I want to bring less.  My hubby and I took a few days away without the kids to celebrate this milestone.  I think this one is the best to date because I used a few more categories than I have in the past and it was easier to get things packed as I went.  Plus, I decided to try drawing some make up and skin care doodles, which I was unsure about, but I think they turned out great!

Before I started into April's entries, I documented the craziness of March:

I didn't feel quite satisfied with this one...with one of the kids had surgery twice and between taking care of her, the rest of the kids being out for spring break, and celebrating my anniversary, there wasn't much spare time to work in my BuJo or create drawings.  This page is more word art than anything, but that was my month!  March went quickly and I felt a bit overwhelmed, so I guess you can see how real life creeps into a bullet journal.

I tried a new design for this month's calendar:

Even though it takes a bit longer, I enjoy creating a calendar that spreads across two pages.   I like the restfulness of the negative space between the boxes and how easily the eye goes across the page.  The wavy lines are awesome, and I also love the look of the dashed outlines (the second picture is zoomed in so you can see how fun the detail is).

Because so much was going on, I didn't get a page spread for the first week of April, so I decided to just skip to the following week and get that one done.  I opted to keep it simple...it was important to get the spread done and ready to use rather than trying to come up with a fancy layout.

One thing I did do that was fun was to add my Bitmoji avatar to the notes section of this spread.
This is not my original idea --- I watched a video by Kara, from Boho Berry about creating and using digital stickers in your digital BuJo.  You can watch her video to learn how to do this.

Since I'm not using the same app as her, I simply chose to to into the Bitmoji app, copy some of my Bitmojis into a folder in my camera roll,  then bring them into Morpholio Journal as I do other types of photos.  Resizing and placing them into my digital BuJo is tricky sometimes, but I still thought it was super fun!  Now that I have some of them saved as stickers, I'm going to build a few spreads around them in the next few weeks!

If you are unfamiliar with Bitmoji, I suggest you download the app on a mobile device, create your Bitmoji avatar, and then have fun using them in your journal.  It feels like an awesome personal touch!

Well, folks, that's it for this time!  I hope you enjoyed seeing what I've journaled so far this month, and if you feel so inclined, leave me a comment letting me know what you are excited about recording in your BuJo.

Plan With Me For December 2017

Hello everyone and how is your December going?  I hope your holiday season is enjoyable for you so far, no matter what special day(s) your are celebrating.   This month is busy for me, as expected, but it has been pleasant at the same time.  And, because I want this season to remain a happy time and not get too crazy, I decided to keep my bullet journal simple with fewer entries.  And, like last month, my spreads may look a bit atypical.  I won't have any weekly logs and have replaced them with other types of entries that work better for me at this time.

I used the Holiday Memories Planner Stickers Digital kit, by Little Bit Shoppe, on some of these spreads. You can find this store at the DigiChick digital scrapbooking site.   You can watch my planning video here:

If you'd like a good look at my pages,  here you go:

My holiday "brain dump" page will stand in for my weekly spreads.  I would rather just have a place to write down things I think of spontaneously and need to get done.  This list will be comprised of non-Christmas tasks, appointments, and other things that I need to remember and get done.  None of the weeks in December will be like my "normal" weekdays, I think I will find it easier to just have one place to write down things I want to do during the month.

This is another spread that I think will serve me better than weekly spreads this time around.  I have a running to do list of things related to the holidays that I want to get done.  Having my holiday tasks separate from my everyday chores and appointments helps me to not feel so overwhelmed, and I can check them off as I go.

Additionally, when I get bogged down between daily and holiday to do lists, I often forget fun things I want to do like watch my favorite Christmas movies and shows, and making treats with the kids often goes out the window.   I'm glad to have this written down in one spot so the fun stuff won't get neglected.

I love advent calendars and counting down the days, so I couldn't resist putting one in my BuJo.   I decided to write down one scripture a day through Christmas.  If scriptures are not your thing, you could easily write down a holiday quote daily, or holiday song lyrics, or your favorite things about the holidays.  This page spread is easy to customize.

Remember when I said I would be doing fewer spreads?  Well, that's all of them for now.

My goal for my next blog post is to show you how I'm setting up my Journal Your Christmas album for the 2017 season.  Stay tuned for that and it's coming as soon as I can pull it all together!

Enjoy the magic of this great time of year!

November 2017 Bullet Journal Flip Through

Hey guys!  Do you ever get the itch to just tackle a project that has been bugging you?  It doesn't happen everyday for me, but when that urge hits, I know it's time to follow to go with it!  In late October and most of November, I was on a mission to edit my closet...or purge it of stuff I wasn't wearing or didn't need...or dejunk it.  However you want to put it, I knew it was time to give it a good cleaning.

I spent time deciding if I wanted to do a capsule wardrobe (see my wardrobe Pinterest Board Here), or if I wanted to make it a little smarter and easier to work with.  In the end, I just couldn't bring myself to do a capsule wardrobe.  I felt like I would get super bored with such a small collection of clothes.

I didn't know exactly where to start, but I was lucky enough to find two great bloggers who gave me some direction.

You can watch my video or get more info from what I've shared below the video window:

The first blogger I found is Rebecca Jacobs.
If you sign up to receive her emails, you can get a free style worksheet.  It takes you through some exercizes to figure out what your personal style is, and I found it to be so helpful.  Although her intention is for you to print the worksheet and write on it, I simply took her questions and ideas and used them on pages I created in my bullet journal.  While my pages don't look like hers, the content is the same.  I enjoyed having them in my journal rather than having to go to a separate document in another app.   I like going back and looking at these spreads when I'm out shopping and can't remember what items I still need to buy.  Here's what I came up with for these pages:

This spread was all about brainstorming things I liked, including colors, fabrics, looks, etc.  Based on the word cloud, I wrote down what is at the core of my own style, and what clothes I feel confident in, and so on.  I highly recommend you get the workbook if you'd like to revamp your closet.

This spread with the pie chart helps me identify the activities in my life and the clothes that go along with it.  I'm a stay at home mom, so obviously, business suits and work wear won't fit my lifestyle, at least not at this point in my journey.  The green section of the pie chart is dedicated to being a mom, and then the other smaller areas of my life are the other pieces of the pie.  I wrote down a list of what clothes are and are not comfy for me and my where I am right now.

For this next set of pages, I used a wardrobe guide that you can find on Corinna's blog, Now That I Can Do, Mama!  I was so thrilled to find this blog, because it is for moms who want to look, feel and dress nice.   I love Corinna's approach because she isn't telling busy women to take hours to get ready, to deal with a fussy system, or spend crazy amounts of money on a wardrobe.  She encourages moderation, thrift, and keeping things doable.

One of the first things you'll see when you visit her blog is a free year round wardrobe guide that you can download for free.  This PDF file will guide you through finding pieces to make a cute, stylish wardrobe that is also comfortable and practical for the everyday life of a mom.  This guide is only a preview, but you can purchase the full guide from Corinna.  I opted to buy the guide and I really enjoy it.  I used the shopping guide and the wardrobe plane to make the spread above.  I chose a main color scheme along with neutral and accent color groupings to help me create a cohesive wardrobe.

I could have done this all on a paper print out of her plan, but I used the print out to brainstorm and get my ideas down, then I transferred my final shopping list, color schemes, and other notes here in my journal.  I don't want to have to worry about losing papers or having to store them somewhere.

This was the sole weekly spread I made for November.  I am really proud of this one and love the color combo especially.   I didn't make other weekly spreads simply because I was so immersed in going through my closet.  I decided to let my bullet journal reflect what I was most interested at the time.

Here's my calendar/What I got done page.  I'm still really liking this format so far!

And last but not least, I also kept my monthly memories page.  November didn't seem like a busy month at first, but when I look back on this spread, I can see I was on the go a lot!  Maybe that's why it seemed to go by really quickly!

That should do it for this post.  Let me know what you guys think of these pages.  Did you like it?  Was it too weird for you?   Leave me a comment and let me know what you think.

I always appreciate you taking time to read my content.  Have a wonderful day!

March 2017 Digital Bullet Journal Walk Through

Hey everyone!

Back in February when I posted about starting up a Digital Bullet Journal, I was really surprised by the number of views that video got on my YouTube channel...it's been my most popular video yet!

Since this topic is so well received, I thought I would try making more videos and maybe make it a regular feature here, on the channel, and my social media pages if I think there's enough interest.  I am so loving my digital BuJo and how it's a fun creative outlet and a flexible planning system.

Here is the video:

I included a few of my favorite page spreads, if you wanna get a better look at them.  The pink and green self-assessment spread wasn't included in the video simply to save time, so I thought I would show it here with the other pages I'm sharing here:

This is one of my weekly log spreads.  It's pretty simple...still not sure if I want to change the design of my weekly entries or not...but it works for now.

One of my favorites is this monthy memories spread.  I was really proud of myself for drawing my city's little skyline.

I love how this one turned out!  The gratitude log is so great for helping me to see all the good in my life, and who knew my little doodles would turn out better than I expected?

My self-eval pages are fun for me to design.  This is the one that didn't make it into
the video.  I blurred the words for privacy purposes, but this still lets you see more of the page.  I'm finding that drawing myself some nice straight lines with my Apple Pencil and the ruler tool keeps everything looking so much neater.

Again, if you are interested, I'm using the Morpholio Journal App on my iPad as my digital bullet journal, and use the habit tracker that can be downloaded from the Boho Berry Tribe Page.

Thanks again for visiting!

I Drew a Face!

I've been working some lately in my paper art journal (I still like doing the digital pages, too...you'll see me kind of jump back and forth between digital and paper projects).  As I've been browsing work by other art journalers, I've admired how they can draw faces, and wanted to try it myself.  I know this isn't going to win me any art contests.  But seriously...I haven't drawn a face probably since elementary school.  It's so true that we all, at some point, notice that others are better at a certain skill than we are, and often stop doing it.  This was true for me with drawing.

Even though it was scary, I looked around for a beginner's class, and found Jane Davenport's Draw Happy online workshop.  This is a mini-class to kind of jumpstart a beginner and get them going.  I'm not going to lie --- it was intimidating at first, and just doing some of the exercises took me awhile.  My first few attempts, I just sat there, trying to turn off all the negative talk in my head.  I didn't necessarily like the first few things I drew, but it got me over the fear of trying.  And, since I did my drawings in my art journal, I figured that the only one who would see them would be me.  This was my third or fourth attempt, and wanted to just go for it using the supplies I had.  And guess what?  I didn't hate it when I was all finished!

The cool thing about drawing faces in an art journal is that it's OK if something on your face is out of proportion or even not a typical flesh tone.  I purposely gave mine pink and green hues.  Even if  something is drawn out of proportion, it makes for a really cool page.

So what do you do if you aren't ready to draw your own faces by hand?  The Crafter's Workshop has awesome templates for scrapbooking and art journaling, and there are several face templates.  This is a fun and easy way to put a face on a project.  In the page below, I used the "Edith and Maude" template:

You can see that I just used the face on the right to create my image.  I outlined the face very lightly with a regular pencil, then went over it with some Derwent Inktense pencils.  I then went back and erased my gray pencil lines, and activated the ink from the Inktense pencils with some water.  I then went over some areas with bit of watercolor paint, and outlined the face with a couple of Gelly Roll pens.   It was pretty fun --- the great thing about an art journal is that you can always cover your mistakes, or leave them be.

So tell me --- how do you feel about drawing?  When was the last time you did any? Are there some of you who do it everyday?  Would you rather do housework than draw?  Does anyone draw using some type of software and a pen tablet?
