Plan With Me --- April 2018

Hello everyone, and I hope all of you who celebrate Easter had a blessed and joyous holiday!  I'm back with this month's entries in my digital bullet journal.  If you guys are interested,  here's this month's video:

Also, I like to include a closer look at each page spread here on the blog if you guys wanna see them in more detail than you can see on the video.  As always, click on any picture you want a larger view of.

I'm starting with a packing list layout I made last month before my hubby and I celebrated our anniversary:

Over the last year,  I've found that writing my packing lists in my BuJo works better than other methods I've tried.  I remember more of the things I want to bring, and forget items I want to bring less.  My hubby and I took a few days away without the kids to celebrate this milestone.  I think this one is the best to date because I used a few more categories than I have in the past and it was easier to get things packed as I went.  Plus, I decided to try drawing some make up and skin care doodles, which I was unsure about, but I think they turned out great!

Before I started into April's entries, I documented the craziness of March:

I didn't feel quite satisfied with this one...with one of the kids had surgery twice and between taking care of her, the rest of the kids being out for spring break, and celebrating my anniversary, there wasn't much spare time to work in my BuJo or create drawings.  This page is more word art than anything, but that was my month!  March went quickly and I felt a bit overwhelmed, so I guess you can see how real life creeps into a bullet journal.

I tried a new design for this month's calendar:

Even though it takes a bit longer, I enjoy creating a calendar that spreads across two pages.   I like the restfulness of the negative space between the boxes and how easily the eye goes across the page.  The wavy lines are awesome, and I also love the look of the dashed outlines (the second picture is zoomed in so you can see how fun the detail is).

Because so much was going on, I didn't get a page spread for the first week of April, so I decided to just skip to the following week and get that one done.  I opted to keep it simple...it was important to get the spread done and ready to use rather than trying to come up with a fancy layout.

One thing I did do that was fun was to add my Bitmoji avatar to the notes section of this spread.
This is not my original idea --- I watched a video by Kara, from Boho Berry about creating and using digital stickers in your digital BuJo.  You can watch her video to learn how to do this.

Since I'm not using the same app as her, I simply chose to to into the Bitmoji app, copy some of my Bitmojis into a folder in my camera roll,  then bring them into Morpholio Journal as I do other types of photos.  Resizing and placing them into my digital BuJo is tricky sometimes, but I still thought it was super fun!  Now that I have some of them saved as stickers, I'm going to build a few spreads around them in the next few weeks!

If you are unfamiliar with Bitmoji, I suggest you download the app on a mobile device, create your Bitmoji avatar, and then have fun using them in your journal.  It feels like an awesome personal touch!

Well, folks, that's it for this time!  I hope you enjoyed seeing what I've journaled so far this month, and if you feel so inclined, leave me a comment letting me know what you are excited about recording in your BuJo.

March 2018 - Plan With Me

Happy March, everyone!  I hope you enjoying the fresh start that comes with the beginning of a new month.  I feel like I'm on a roll, staying consistent with blog and YouTube posts.  I feel like I'm starting to find my rhythm for planning and following through, and I hope you've noticed!

Here's this month's planning video, if you'd like to watch:

If you'd rather read about this month's spreads,  you can see them below.  Before I get started on the new month, I usually find myself going back to finish the previous month's memories.  This spread was greatly influenced by the Rock Your Journal Mastermind Class  I took from Erin Nichols, who blogs over at The Petite Planner.  I took it during the last part of January and pretty much all of February and learned so much.  On this spread, the title treatment and the pink banner are two elements are I learned how to do during the class.   I've struggled a bit with banners --- curled banners especially.   It's so nice now to be able do one up myself without having to use a premade one!

Another one of my class assignments that I completed last month was this page.  We were asked to do a special collection page, or in other words, a spread created for a distinct purpose other than the normal pages that are created each month.  I wanted to make sure it was a set of pages that would be useful to me, as I'm not needing tracker pages, etc.  I decided to make pages for date night ideas, since my husband and I are often struggling to find something to do besides dinner and a movie.   I was happy after this list was done and look forward to trying out some of these with my hubby.

Instead of using the premade calendar I created, I decided to draw out this month's spreads, using a format suggested in Erin's class.  I didn't think I would like it, but plunged ahead anyway because it looked so cool in the class samples.  The flower doodles are things I also learned in the class as well.  I love how it turned out.  If I find this format works, I may just make up a premade sheet for this, too!
I really wanted some soft, spring colors for this month, and love how it looks.  I'm so ready for warmer weather and pretty blooms, and this spread reflects that.

Here is the first weekly spread of the month, which I topped with folded banners.  I need to work on keeping both page banners similar in proportion, but I love that I drew them!  I'm proof that a person can better at something with continued effort at learning new skills and practicing them.  If you learn nothing else from reading my blog, I hope it's that you don't have be perfect to learn something artistic and enjoy it.

This last spread is the weekly that I'm currently working in.  I've been in the mood for some curvy, swirly-ness to my standard spread design, so I added some to these pages.  I'm also looking forward to tulips blooming, so I added a few small tulip embellishments as well.

Let me know how your bullet journal is coming along so far, and if there are any new techniques or skills you are trying out.  I hope this is an awesome month for all of you!

February 2018 - Plan With Me

Well, hello everyone!  How is your February going? Mine is getting a little less hectic, since we finished off a marathon of four birthdays in my family, all of which were with a few days or weeks of each other.  There's hardly been a moment to stop and take a breath, but I'm happy now that I can get back to a somewhat normal routine.

This means I have a new video and blog post for you:

Here's a better look at each of the spreads for those of you who want to see them in more detail.

First up is the previous month's memory page.  These types of spreads are my favorite right now.  It feels so good to sit down and document what's been going on with me and my family over the past few weeks.  Creating the drawings is super theraputic for me, since it involves coloring, which I've loved way before the adult coloring trend was even a thing!

This spread may not vary too much each month...we'll just have to see how it goes.  For right now, I love having a monthly calendar and my video/planning sheet plopped in there.  While I've only been using the planning sheet for a week or two, it is really helping me to have that visual reminder and a way to write down what I want to to do.  If I write it down, I'm much more likely to follow through with my plan.   I love the colors here...so many pinks and purples!

Since the last part of January and the first partial week of February were during the same week, you can find that weekly spread right here.  My first entire week of this month is what you see below.
I made the pages look torn, which is quickly becoming a go to for weeklies, and did up this lettering myself.

On the first of the month, I started taking Erin Nichol's (of The Petite Planner Blog) Rock Your Journal Class.
It's an entire course for anyone who wants to start bullet journaling, and those of us who've been doing it for awhile but still want to improve.  Erin has done an amazing job keeping the lessons doable, but still fun and interesting.  Out of the gate, I found myself learning something I didn't know, but not feeling like I had to practice for hours to actually get the gist of what was being taught.  I was able to practice and then have my first assignment posted in the private class Facebook group for class members.   I'm doing all of my practice in my BuJo, and here is the spread I did on my first practice session/assignment.

Rock Your Journal Spread - Lettering

OK, and for those of you who took time to visit my blog, I'm posting some bonus page spreads I didn't show on my my YouTube video for this month.  You will only see them here!  These are spreads I did for the class that I finished after the video was up.

For this assignment, I was supposed to write my name using different lettering styles:

(a couple more pages coming soon)

What does your bullet journal looking like for February? Shoot me a reply or send me a picture or two...I'd love to see your pages.  I hope your day is fabulous!

August 2017 - Plan With Me

It's making my head spin to think that August is here already...and while we're on that subject,  where did the summer go?  It seems like it's shorter and shorter each year and we stay so busy.  With my kids getting older and going more places nowadays,  there's never a dull moment.   I need my digital BuJo more than ever right now, especially since the kids will be in school before I know it.

My latest planning video is here for you:

Here are links to some of my Pinterest boards and pins that were mentioned in the video:

I'm posting photos of the journal spreads I included in the video, in case you wanted to get a better look at them.  I hope you enjoy seeing what I did, and since I didn't include a habit tracker on the page opposite the month of August, feel free to leave a suggestion on what you think would make a good replacement.

Let me know how you like these pages, and I'd be curious to see what you are doing in your bullet journal this month.  Have a great day and happy Planning!

July 2017 Bullet Journal Spreads

Heya, everyone!  Wow...has your July been as busy as mine?   It started our for me with the Independence Day fun, and then continued on as I attended Brave Girl's Symposium.  I got to go and hear amazing speakers who shared messages of healing and validation, connect with other ladies from around the country (and in some cases, the globe), eat good food, do yoga, take part in break out sessions, shop, and rest.  It was a much needed break:

If you wanna know more about Brave Girl's Symposium or Brave girls Club,  visit their website here.

I'm posting my bullet journal pages finally, now that the middle of the month has arrived...but ya'll understand, right?  I found out I was able to go to the symposium just days before it started, so I jumped at the chance to do so.

Here are my pages for your viewing enjoyment...:-)

I've gotten into the habit of showing my monthly memories from the previous month in the next month's blog post and videos, since I don't create these spreads until the very end of the month.  It just makes more sense fore me right now  The monthly memories are my favorite and so fun to look back on.  This spread is also a great tool for me as I look back and go to scrapbook pages on these events and moments.

This is the same idea as last month...I put my gratitude log and doodle-a-day on a spread.  I am using  Nicole's prompts for her blog, the Petite Planner, for this month's doodles.  Here is the link to her Instagram account where she posts these prompts:  Oodles of Doodles Challenge for July  You will have to scroll down just a bit to find the prompts, but they are there.

Ok...you can see my completed mood tracker for June, and I love the way it turned out.  That spread is one of the prettiest I've done, and I will always be glad I did it.  However, it was still too visually confusing for me.  I can see that there were mostly good feelings there throughout the month, but still didn't give me what I wanted.   I'm hoping to see if there are one or two prevailing moods that are dominating my day-to-day life, so I chose to make thermometers for each mood.  I figure if I can see my moods side by side in this linear fashion, I can see which ones are prevailing and which ones are not.  If I see too many negatives getting more of my energy, then I want to be sure I change that.

Here are two weekly spreads based off of this spread from Zen of Planning.  It was not my original idea, so I wanted to give credit where it was due.  I modified it to suit my own taste.  I love both of them, but liked the second one even better since I prefer my spreads to stay a little cleaner.  I may just adopt the lower one to use consistently for awhile...it really seems to have everything I need and want in a weekly spread.

Here is the video I did to go along with this post.  I hope you'll watch if you have time:

Thanks for taking time to be here, and if you feel so inclined, let me know how you are doing in your digital or traditional bullet journal.  Are you trying anything new or sticking with your tried and true?  I'd love to hear from you.

Have a great day,

June 2017 Plan With Me (In My Digital Bullet Journal)

OK, after an unexpected hiatus, I'm back!  I got a bad cold...you know those ones where you just feel like death warmed over?  Ugh!  That's how it was for me.  I had no energy to do anything, much less craft.

I'm happy to jump in again and show you what I've done in my bullet journal for this month.  I know some of you who come here looking for scrapbook and card making inspiration might be wondering if I'm still posting about that, and rest assured that I am.  I have a few things down that vein in the works, so stay tuned...:)

Here's my video outlining how I set up my BuJo for the month of June 2017.

Here is short and sweet run down on what's different if you don't have time to read the video:

-In the photo at the top of this post is a mood tracker.  I didn't think I would want to do one of those when I first starting bullet journaling, but I've been wondering how my moods are affecting me these days, especially after the death of my father earlier this year.  I've been looking for an alternative to the mood mandalas that are so popular right now.  While I love looking at them, visually, it's really busy for me personally to get a handle on how my moods will fluctuate throughout the month.  So I'm opting to create a blossom for each day of the month, and fill it in with color based on my mood.  Here is the flower for June 1st that I colored and embellished for how I felt that day:

I'm also changing up my doodling practice gratitude log pages a bit:

I'm modifying my gratitude log just slightly, trying to keep it neater and tidier, with a bit more space for writing.  My doodling page is different this time around because I'm taking the #oodlesofdoodleschallengejune done by Erin, who writes the Petite Planner blog.  If you click on the link with the hashtag,  it will take you right to Erin's suggested list of things to doodle from her Instagram account.  I was getting stumped trying to think of things to doodle on my own, so I'm doing her challenge to keep it easier for myself.

And also, if you have looked over this post and are curious about the some of the lettering styles I've used on the pages I've shown here, you can find them gathered on a Pinterest board I created for them.  These are all the creations of other artists...I'm just trying to learn to letter these styles myself and don't claim these lettering designs as my own:  my hand lettering pinterest board.

Here also is my spread containing my June calendar and the habit tracker I consistently download from Kara at Boho Berry:

I've also planned out my first weekly log...I keep flip flopping back and forth about which format I want to use.  I went back to a format I've already used in the past.  We'll see if I stick with it or decide to go another way.  I messed up the title on the right side of the spread, making the letters for "June 4" too large, but I'm leaving it.  This bullet journalist is striving for progress, not perfection...:).

I hope you guys like my page spreads that I have so far.  If you want to see more of my progress for this month as I go along, please give me a holler.

Otherwise, thanks for visiting and I'll see you around!

A Digital Bullet Journal Using Morpholio Journal App

You guys, I am so sorry!  I forgot to get this blog post up after I made the accompanying video.  It kind of got lost as I was spending time with my family after the passing of my dad.

Anyhow, I just wanted to you to know I did remember and here's the lowdown on my digital bullet journal.  I wasn't sure which app I wanted to use for a project like this. I tried note taking apps at first, like Notability and Evernote's Penultimate, but neither of those were really ideal for me.  When tried using them, I found that each page in the journal was a completely separate document.  And while that was OK, it wasn't optimal.  I wanted an app that had the look and feel of a book, where I could flip through the pages.

I went back to the App Store and finally found an app called Morpholio Journal.  It is made to look like a Moleskine journal, and soon, the ability to have a digital journal printed off will be available.
This app has some great features, which I will show you in the video below:

Here's the link if you wish to get this app for yourself:  Morpholio Journal App

I use the app on my iPad Pro with my Apple Pencil, but you don't have to have either one.  You can use an older iPad and any stylus that will work with it.  I have a list of styli that are compatible with older iPads: alternative styli for iPads

Also, I used a couple of PDF from ETSY, and a "Hello 2017" title and the February Habit Tracker pages that I found on the BOHO Berry blog.  Here are links to those items:

Year at a Glance Calendar PDF
Boho Berry Tribe (Be aware that you need to join the blog's mailing list to access to the title and tracker pages as well as the rest of Kara's (the blog owner) free and awesome goodies.  This is a list that is worth your time, so I recommend you giving it a try).  Kara is amazing bullet journaler, and her content is fabulous, so check her out.

Here's a few photos of the bullet journal pages, if I showed if you wanna get a better look at them:

Beginner Handlettering on a Layout

If you've looked around the web lately, it seems like there has been an explosion of hand lettered items...fonts, invitations that have been hand lettered, instructional books on how to do it, and more.

And, if you have been on Pinterest in the last 6 months, bullet journaling, and hand lettering in those journals is all over it.  I have been dying to try lettering since then, and decided to just plow ahead and give it a shot.

Obviously, I am just starting out as a beginner, and I in no way stating that I have this skill down or that I'm an expert in any way, shape or form.  I am willing to learn, and decided to take you along as I made my first scrapbook page with a handwritten element on it (the word "snow" on the layout above).

Even though my hand is shaky, and I know it will take a lot more practice, I'm really enjoying this process.  And I know that as I go along, I'll get better hopefully can share what I learn.

Here's the video I created showing how I made my hand lettering.  Please note that I used my Apple Pencil, iPad Pro, and the Procreate app to use do this word art.  I then imported it as a .psd file from Procreate and sent it to myself in an email.
